Since the release of Macromedia Director 8.5, I am biased to the new 3-D capabilities of Director, my favorite authoring environment. Some examples of my latest work with 3-dimensional worlds are shown below

All of the samples shown here require a plug-in, which enables your browser to play back content authored with Director. The Shockwave plug-in provides the ability to deliver multimedia content online, due to its excellent compression of image and sound data, while it provides a high level of interaction and functionality by its powerful programming language Lingo.

You need to install the plug-in only once to enable your browser to display multimedia created with director. In most cases this takes place automatically as soon as you enter a page with a shockwave movie and the system detects, that your system lacks the required software.

Of course this great potential of the plug-in affords a pretty huge download. So please be patient, when the plug-in downloadeds -- it is worth every little bit! Afterwards you can browse other sites, which use shockwave without further install.

TIP: If you encounter performance problems, when viewing the 3-D examples, it may be, that your graphic card is low on memory or the CPU is busy with other tasks. To lower the memory requirements you may want to set the color depth of your display to 16-bit (thousands of colors) in the System Control Panel and make sure to quit other tasks.
